The Team - David Gray

David is the Chairman of Gray’s, based at our Hamsterley office and is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He has practiced throughout the country, including Scotland, and prior to 2005 was head of Estate Management and Rural Practice of Smiths Gore. He specialises in the provision of strategic advice in respect of property interests and general Estate management.

Clients have varied from institutional Landowners, significant Landed Estates and owners/occupiers. He has an extensive knowledge of shooting, including grouse moor management and large scale commercial pheasant/partridge shoots.

During 2007 it became apparent that David’s expertise in providing independent strategic and management advice on Estates was being sought by Clients. This work often involves Estates where Gray’s Chartered Surveyors have no other professional involvement and the management is done by another firm. In order to keep this type of work completely separate from Gray’s Chartered Surveyors, he set up Gray’s Consultancy Services LLP in 2008 and now spends a significant amount of his time providing such independent advice from the Hamsterley office.

In addition to the various Trustee and Directorships he holds on behalf of Land Management Clients, he is a Director of a number of businesses based in Sunderland, including a metal storage company, as well as a family owned timber sawmilling business in Cumbria. This allows David to bring a professional business-like approach to all types of assets associated with rural Estates and property.
